What a week that was! So hot, so humid, so sticky, if I was awake at 5am, I got up and did my first session of gardening. At that time of the morning it was so wonderfully cool, just me and the birds. If I was lucky I managed a second bit of gardening after breakfast, but then, that was it, it was too hot to do any more! This morning I was photographing my six for today at 6am, could have made it all day lilies there were so many new ones opening, some will have to wait until next week.
Hemerocallis
I think this one might be called Gentle Shepherd, but don’t quote me on that, it was bought so long ago that I might be mixing it up with something else!
Somehow I don’t know the names of many of my day lilies, this one included, when I bought them I had no idea that someday I would be showing them on a SOS post!
A lovely little purple one in the border by the field.
Clematis.
Clematis Perle d’Azur which is on the pergola at the top of the garden by the field next door.
Clematis Tie Dye, also on the pergola.
Clematis Super Nova also on the pergola. Soon the pergola should be covered with viticella clematis, they are coming into their prime flowering period.
Inula magnificum.
Inula magnificum grws to about 8ft or more. I have to be thankful that it flops over when I forget to stake it otherwise I would never be able to photograph it! Super flowers that the wildlife love.
I know, I sneaked an extra one in there, but I’m sure no one noticed!

If you had Daylilies as one, Clematis as two, then the Inula magnificum which is fab, as three, then we are three short! Either way you have too many or two few, but I am delighted with your ‘Six’ since I rather like the Inula magnificum
Haha Noelle, I’ll have to make up for it next week! The Inula was given to us when we stayed at a farmhouse in Kent, many years ago, they had masses of it growing in the front garden, theirs wasn’t flopping though!
I agree with Noelle, we are three short! Your clematis are looking good, very few of mine have actually flowered at all this year. And I even managed to give them some fertiliser in the spring!
Oh dear Jude,and I had plenty of other photos too, maybe I can sneak 9 in next week?! It seems to have been a good year for my clematis, better than last year anyway.
A lovely selection. It never occurred to me to get up and do some gardening at 5am, despite being wide awake. I may have to adopt that if we get more of these horrible heatwaves. It was much more pleasant out there this morning but it’s got too hot for me again this afternoon! Fingers are crossed for some rain tomorrow.
I am definitely a morning person Graeme, if I’m awake, I’m up! Knowing I can’t stand the heat it made sense to me to get on with the jobs that needed doing while it was still cool. I agree today was a lot better, didn’t have to put the fan on until 3pm! We were promised a thunder storm on Friday but it didn’r arrive, hopefully the rain will come tomorrow.
Beautiful day lilies and clematis!
Inula is new to me. What a nice plant – and native according to the RHS, though I think it was introduced in ancient times. I’m going to buy some seeds for our garden – it will look great against our fence.
The Inula does grow really tall Kathrin and has huge leaves, but if you can fit it in, I think you will like it.
I like the inula, if the pollinators like it to I shall have to put it on my wishlist.

Pure loveliness! It’s clear they were photographed with love and morning comfort. I will be using this same morning gardening routine during the coming week when we’ll have hot temps (32-34C)…not as hot as your heat dome, but not pleasant for puttering in the garden. I hope your conditions are much more comfortable going forward this summer! That Clematis ‘Tye Dye’ is fun!
Temperatures are a lot better now Beth, thank goodness, but I see that it will be hotter again by the weekend! The Clematis Tye Dye is rather special, and is faily new so hasn’t reached its full potential yet.
The inula is a great plant and the day lilies have such superb colour. Thank you for reminding me of Perle D’Azur. A lovely six.

That second unidentified lily is stunning! Wow. I’d have loved to know the name of that one. I feel like I need to hunt that one down now 😀 I just love the colour. The gentle shepherd one is lovely too.
I’ve only ever had orange ones in my gardens, which I never really liked too much. They were always inherited from previous tennants, so I never looked into them or thought I’d ever want one. Now I guess I have another rabbit hole to jump into! 😀
