Six on Saturday. 16.05.2026.

I think we can say that we have had rather a mixed week weatherwise this last week, very strong winds, lots of rain and also lots of sunshine, although when I was working in the garden yesterday I had hailstones bouncing off my head! The week has passed by so quickly and it is time for SOS again.

Azalea.

A little Japanese Azalea on the rockery, looking very colourful at the moment.

Clematis Lasurstern, I think, in the back garden by the conservatory. This was here before we came so has been here longer than 35 yrs.

Allium.

Allium Purple Sensation in the back garden, this is the first one to open.

Yellow Rattle.

The yellow rattle seed that we sowed from the plants in the meadow last year, are now flowering and we have lots more this year than last.

Weigela.

Weigela variegata, which is up near the pond is looking rather nice at the moment with its pale pink flowers.

Another Weigela, this time a dwarf one, on the rockery which has white flowers and brown/purple leaves, also looking rather nice.

Rhododendron.

It’s Rhododendron time again, this is another plant that was already here when we came to Devon, a rather nice pale lilac variety in the back garden.

A lot more rain is forecast for this weekend and most of next week, but that means that I can watch the Chelsea Flower Show if I can’t be out working in my garden, I’m sure there will be lots to give me inspiration! Once again, thanks to Jim at Garden Ruminations for hosting, if you like plants and gardens, do pay him a visit.

I think it must be weigela week, there seem to be a few beauties about. Lovely little azalea. Enjoy your rainy weekend

  2. Fred says:

    Lovely azalea ! A colour that I don’t have.
Yes, the weather has been strange this week. Hail on Thursday and sunshine today.

    • Pauline says:

It is pretty isn’t it Fred, and it stays small too, just what I needed. The weather has been strange, I think the worst was the strong wind, ripping new leaves and flowers off the trees, next week seems to be better, thank goodness!

What a pretty azalea and the clematis is a gorgeous colour. I can’t face going to Chelsea these days but I find the t.v. coverage frustrating. Hours of it, but too much talking. I wish they would just show us the gardens.

    • Pauline says:

I’ve never been to Chelsea Liz, just Hampton Court a few times. Have to admit I don’t watch all the coverage of Chelsea, far too much, I enjoy the Great Pavilion best where the growers are talking about their passion for their plants, that’s where I get my inspiration!

  4. Graeme says:

Lots of beautiful plants. I really like the dwarf Weigela with the dark leaves and white flowers – a lovely combination. Chelsea seems to have come round quickly!

    • Pauline says:

Thanks Graeme, I think the dark leaved Weigela is a bit unusual, it looks nice where I’ve put it. It depends on the weather, how much Chelsea I will watch, if its fine, the garden comes first!

A wonderful collection as always. I think we have the same allium as you. It’s only in its first year, so it’s slightly behind and only about to open.
Nice to see yellow rattle. I believe it was in our wildflower mix, too, so let’s see if it comes up despite being trampled by builders.

    • Pauline says:

Thanks Kathrin, I have lots more yellow rattle coming into flower now, more opening each day. It didn’t arrive by itself, my gardener brought seed from another garden that he deals with and sprinkled it the first year, since then we have sprinkled my own seed and it seems to be working on the grass. Hope yours have survived your builders!

  6. a lovely selection of flowers in your post….that Clematis though…35 years…what a trooper!

    • Pauline says:

Thank you Cath for your kind comment. There wasn’t much here when we moved here 35 yrs ago,it was more like a field! The clematis has done well over the years, hope it keep going.
