After a week of mostly rain with just a bit of sunshine, it looks as though the weather will be improving slowly. I’m afraid circumstances got in the way of my blog and post last weekend, but hopefully this week all will be well. My gardener has told me that he will be leaving soon, changing his job, so I now need to find someone else, which I know won’t be easy. In the meantime, lets get on with this weeks six………
Philadelphus.
I’ll start with Philadelphus Belle Etoille which is filling the garden with its wonderul perfume at the moment
Clematis.
Clematis Pagoda is climbing up an obelisk near the house and has dainty flowers which do look like a pagoda! It grows to about 6ft so doesn’t get too tall.
Up on the pergola at the top of the garden is Clematis Polish Spirit, this is fairly new and it seems to be doing very well so far, must be happy!
Rambling roses.
This is the archway going into the woodland with rambling Rosa Snowgoose, Even though it is a rambler, it flowers on and off all summer and is a lovely rose. According to the information from David Austin, which I can’t have read when I planted it, it says to plant it in full sun, mine is in sunshine at 5am for a couple of hours and then shade for the rest of the day, faces north, but seems very happy!
This is another rambler, this time a huge one, Wedding Day, which was planted 27yrs ago when my daughter got married. I planted it up a large old Ash tree …….
…….and it didn’t take it long before it had climbed up to the top!
Allium.
Allium Christophii is flowering on the rockery. I planted it about 10 years ago, along with quite a few others, but this is the lone survivor.
Phormium.
A bunch of little bananas? no…….
….the flowers of Phormium Yellow Wave! The bees were loving these flowers, masses of them enjoying what was on offer.
Papaver.
Oriental poppy, Papaver Patty’s Plum is flowering at the entrance of the pergola. I haven’t seen it for a couple of years, nice to see that it is still with me.
I was up at 5.30am this morning and looking out of the landing window before coming downstairs, saw a hedgehog wandering across my drive, of course it had disappeared by the time I got downstairs, why do I never have the camera with me when I need it?!

Thanks Cath, so many lovely flowers all coming at the same time at the moment, I need them to slow down! I watched the hedgehog for a few moments then it disappeared into the bushes. At least I saw it this time, normally I just see the messages it leaves behind!
Those rambling roses are very impressive!! What a lovely idea to plant one on your daughter’s wedding day!
Thank you Kathrin, the Wedding Day rose needs a very large tree to climb though, thank goodness for my trees that are a couple of hundred years old! It was actually a little while after my daughter’s wedding that I planted the rose, we were a bit busy with the wedding on the day!
I checked my hedgehog box today and was surprised to find it occupied. I very much hope it’s a female with young but I didn’t go poking about. I’ve set up my trail camera again though.

There are so many things I love about this post. First, the Poppy! I’m currently fascinated with all types of Poppies, and yours is a beauty–the color is so lovely. Clematis flowers and vines are always enchanting. Mock Orange is definitely a favorite here, too. I always love Alliums! And the Phormium is so unique. A very nice post!

Philadelphus Belle Etoille is a beauty and such a lovely fragrance. That’s a shame about your gardener. I hope you’re able to find someone just as good soon.
Belle Etoille certainly stops me as I’m oassing, the perfume is so wonderful.It’s never easy getting a new gardener and training them to your ways! I’ve had good, bad and indifferent since my husband died, I think this last one is in the last category!
