Another week has flown by, this time a lot cooler and a lot of rain which was much needed. Photographing plants was a question of rushing out in between all the showers. In the past couple of weeks I have shown you some of my David Austin roses, this week I will show some others that I have chosen for various reasons.

Rose Buff Beauty which I grew from a cutting from one in the back garden. The original one was already here when we moved in 35 yrs ago.

The red rose of Lancashire, or Rosa gallica officinalis, more pink to me, but had to have it when I moved here , to remind me of home. Looking a bit bedraggled here with all the rain.

The flowers are semi double so the bees can enjoy them and it has a faint perfume.

The Dunwich Rose which I bought after a holiday in Dunwich, in East Anglia many years ago when the children were little. Most of the village of Dunwich has been claimed by the sea, but this rose is a reminder of a very happy holiday there.

Another semi double flower that the bees can enjoy as well as me!

Rosa glauca in the back garden, much prefer its former name of rubrifolia, as I bought it really for the beautifully coloured leaves. Another one for the bees and it forms lovely hips in the autumn.

Rosa Ballerina, I bought this one just because I liked it! Forms a rather lovely smallish shrub.

I will finish off with my orchid which is nearly fully open.

Almost fully open now, the rest of the meadow is a bit battered by the wind and rain but the orchids are still standing proud, in spite of everything.

More roses for next week, this time the huge climbers up my ancient trees and a well behaved rambler! Trying to keep up with the deadheading is a job in itself, but at least nature is doing my watering for me!

Do pay Jim a visit at Garden Ruminations if you would like to see gardens and plants from around the world.
