What a difference a week makes! Yesterday was non stop rain when my patio was flooded once more and we had rain on and off all week. I think last weekend was the peak of the leaves falling from the trees, you couldn’t see any blades of grass under the leaves, but the gardener soon blew them up and it looked tidy once more. Thank goodness all my photos were taken last week, the storm meant torrential rain yesterday.
Time for SOS for this week.
We have been worried about one of my box cubes by the driveway for a while, it seems to have been attacked by the dreaded box moth caterpillar, so of course I am now worried about all my other box plants. I suppose I must consider myself lucky to have escaped it so far.
However , with all the rain we have had since the photo was taken, I’m amazed at its recovery, so much new growth, it is almost back to normal. Monty Don mentioned a couple of weeks ago that nematodes can be applied in the spring and also they must be kept watered, I’ve never watered any of them in 30 yrs! and fertilised, so obviously I must give them a bit of TLC as well!

This is my Acer in its big pot up at the top of the garden. The last storm brought all the leaves off so the display is over now for another year.

All the Field Maples in the hedgerows are now a beautiful golden yellow and the leaves are rapidly falling.

My favourite fern at the moment as all the others are collapsing, is an evergreen one in the woodland . Must move some of it to make more as it is so lovely.

My little purple berberis in the back garden, Berberis Atropurpurea Nana, has now reached its climax of colour change for this autumn, I suppose the leaves will soon drop.

Going out in a blaze of colour is the Wisteria which is on the garage wall, such a bright golden yellow, brightening up the dull days we have been having this week.
Thank goodness the rain seems to have stopped this morning, but for how long. All seems very quiet out in the garden at the moment, hope it stays that way. I think that we have seen the end of the autumn tints for this year, it has been lovely for the last 8 weeks watching all the colour changes, just a lot of leaves to clear away for leaf mould, then before I know it, the snowdrops will be everywhere! Thanks to Jim at Garden Ruminations for hosting, do pay him a visit to see gardens from around the world.

Lots of lovely autumn colour but I particularly like the fern, the different shades of green are gorgeous.
Thanks Helen, I am very fond of the fern too, especially at this time of year.
It has been a stinker of a week! The berberis is lovely, as is the (now naked) acer. I’m looking forward to sharing your snowdrops with you. Have a good week.
It has been awful hasn’t it Gill, especially as I haven’t had any internet for 3 days, hope it goes ok today! Only a few weeks until snowdrops start once more.
Oh yes, I love that fern too! It has a really unique shape and colour that you don’t often see. Another thing that caught my eye, of course, is this pretty Japanese maple and its autumnal red colour. Well done, because it has a very beautiful shape!
Sorry for the delay Fred, internet problems, lets hope it all works tomorrow! So glad you like the maple, the shape is all its own, I haven’t done any pruning!
The acer is really lovely, and such a different color to other plants in the garden. I also really like that fern!
Thank you Katherine, sorry for the delay in answering, internet problems! So glad you like the acer, it is rather lovely isn’t it.
Lovely autumnal colours and that fern is very pretty indeed. I hope you manage to win against the Box Moth caterpillars. I must admit I gave up and dug up all the box balls and cubes in the end – I only ever tried picking off the caterpillars though, so hopefully the nematodes, etc., will be more effective. The neighbour’s box hedge died after it was eaten by the caterpillars which was a bit alarming. I still miss the box balls – the euronymus japonicus substitutes have yet to get going.
Sorry for the delay Graeme, internet problems all week, hope it works tomorrow! Glad you like my autumn tints, all gone now with the storm last week and the frost at the moment. My son and DIL near London are managing to cope with the boc moth caterpillar by using the nematodes each year so hopefully they will work for me too, don’t want to dig them all up, I have too many of them!
Ooh what a yummy Acer! <3
Thanks Sarah, glad you like it!
Wow, the foliage in your post is so colorful and lush! That potted Maple starts it out so beautifully with its magenta glow. And then the Berberis and the Wisteria…and all the others…lovely!
Thank you beth, glad you like it all! Sorry for the delay but have had internet problems all week, hope it is all working properly now.
