The last of the Day Lilies to flower for me is this one – Canadian Border Patrol – which really is drop dead gorgeous. July colour in the garden has been magnificent, thanks to the daylilies, but their show is now winding down until next year.
With our heavy soil I am nowhere near as successful with “proper” lilies, but one which never lets me down is an un-named one given to me by friend Jill and has the most delicious perfume. It greets you when you are 20ft away – as if you needed reminding of where it is when it looks so beautiful.
Another reliable one is a martagon lily in a small area of woodland – it took a long time to settle and flower but is now multiplying nicely.
