At last I’ve been able to work in the garden once more, we had a couple of days when the sun shone and it was quite warm, I ended up in a T shirt, yes, in February, but back to jumpers and coats to work on Thursday! Lots more plants are sprouting and will soon appear in SOS in the future but for now, here are my six for this week.

I haven’t shown my chaenomeles by the back door for a while, it is still gowing strong, greeting me when I pop out first thing to fill the bird feeders.

The perfume from Daphne bholua wafts through the woodland when the wind is from the west, a bumble bee got there before me!

Scilla sibirica always surprise me when they pop up on the scree, they are so tiny and yet they flower when we have the worst of our weather. They are such a lovely bright blue and seed happily, jumping over the little wall onto the rockery.

Lots more Narcissus Minnow flowering now, these are in the side garden very near to where it always seems to flood these days.

Chionodoxa Pink Giant are also flowering on the scree at the moment, they obviously like the conditions here, which is the only spot which has very well drained soil!

Camellia Margaret Davies is in the driveway border, looking very pretty at the moment.

I showed the first flower on the first plant I bought for the garden a few weeks ago, now the large camellia is covered with lovely blooms, it really brightens up that corner of the garden.

There we have my offering for this week. I tried leaving comments on your posts last week but for some reason they weren’t accepted, hope it all works this week. Thanks to Jim at Garden Ruminations for hosting again, do pop over to see other gardens from around the world.

Great bee shot! You have so many lovely winter/spring plants, it is a joy to see. Here is hoping for a few more pleasant day this coming week.

  2. Fred says:

I love the chaenomeles! It’s a very beautiful early spring bloom with a unique colour. Another thing that pleasantly surprised me was the chionodoxas you featured in your Six. I don’t think I’ve seen any others in this week’s Six; it’s the beginning.

The chaenomeles is an old favourite Fred, it keeps me going all through the winter. The chionodoxa have been in the scree for at least 25 yrs, they are doing really well!

  3. Graeme says:

It’s a pity the fragrance of the Daphne can’t be shared digitally! Chionodoxa Pink Giant looks very pretty indeed.

    • Pauline says:

I agree Graeme, the daphne perfume would brighten up anyone’s day!The Chionodoxa are a delight each year and seem to like where I have put them.

  4. Helen Jones says:

Lots of gorgeous flowers and I love the bee photo! I saw a bee on some plants outside the garden centre today, it makes you realise spring really is around the corner now.

  5. Your Flowering Quince is perfection…the beautiful peachy color and the delicate blooms. And you captured a fabulous photo of it! A very nice bee photo on the Daphne, too. I don’t recall seeing Camellia ‘Margaret Davies’ before (or if so I don’t remember it being so pretty). The pink, striped petal edges are magical! Very nice. 🙂

    • Pauline says:

Thanks Beth, glad you like the Quince, it usually flowers right through the winter now that I cut it as a hedge. Camellia Margaret Davies was bought such a long time ago, I think that was the name, even so I like the pink tipped petals!
