Storm Benjamin blew through and caused leaves to drop on all my trees, so this week has seen me busy raking them up to make leaf mould. The gardener has also been a help, sweeping them up with the lawn mower, but there are plenty more for him when he next comes! The rest of the week has seen sunshine and showers, keeping the plants happy.
Time now for my six for this week………..

Hundreds of eating apples are now ready, but unfortunately you can’t even give them away, everyone has so many, boxes at gateways are still full .

Leycestaria formosa is still sending out lots of flowers, the birds will enjoy the berries when they form.

Viburnum Bodnantense Dawn has started flowering and will continue to do so on and off all winter depending on the weather, so hopefully we won’t get too much frost. The leaves have turned a beautiful burgundy colour which goes so well with the pale pink flowers.

I have quite a lot of wild holly, Ilex, in my hedges, I’m sure courtesy of the birds and they are all covered with plenty of berries.

Ilex Golden King is also covered in berries, it is a good year for the berries , hopefully the birds will find plenty to eat during the winter.

I normally cut my Mahonia Charity back after flowering, but earlier in the year when that should have happened I was going into hospital and it got forgotten. Now however, I’m rather glad I forgot it as it is now making a wonderful display with its flowers.

This is a lovely looking cat which I find in my garden nearly every day. It knows it isn’t welcome as I always see it waiting to pounce on my birds or even sitting under the bird table. It always runs away as soon as it sees me, I just wish it would stay in its own garden!
Everything is very quiet this morning so it looks as though I should be able to get quite a bit of gardening done. It is definitely colder but working should keep me warm! Thanks to Jim for hosting, do pop over to him to see what is happening in other gardens around the world.
Your viburnum is beautiful, I wish I could smell it! It has been a bumper year for fruit, hasn’t it, your eaters look very delicious. Enjoy your gardening day.
Lots of lovely autumnal photos, Pauline, but the mahonia in particular is a stunner!
My Viburnum didn’t flower this year, maybe it’s too young. Yours is very pretty, as are these clumps of Mahonias, which you let flower.
Funnily enough, I noticed some flower buds on my winter flowering Viburnum the other day – they’ve yet to open like yours though. A lovely six, even the cat (we shoo them off in our garden too!)
The foliage of your viburnum is gorgeous, Pauline – I unexpectedly caught a whiff of fragrance on mine during the week, as I hadn’t noticed the blooms till then. We only felt the touch of Benjamin but the effect on leaves was still noticeable. Shame about the apples – how long would they keep for if you picked and stored them? We get several local cats walking through our garden – it’s not the walking I mind, it’s the other things!
