We have had some very welcome rain this week, but only short showers and not really enough, but musn’t grumble. The weeds are still growing and I’m still pulling them out when I can. My physiotherapist is very pleased with my progress and is happy that it is because of my increased gardening and not his exercises! The flowers keep coming and new families are keeping the garden interesting from my point of view, but now, on with the Six!

My white hydrangea under the kitchen window is now flowering and is another of the many Madames in the garden, this time H. Mme E. Mouillere.

Inula helenium which should be over 8ft tall, but thankfully this one has flopped otherwise I wouldn’t be able to photograph it!

More daylilies now flowering, names lost over the years as they have been here nearly as long as I have.

Malva moschata Alba which pops up up here and there in the garden, seeds about by itself, but never becomes a problem here.

Just opened yesterday is Crocosmia Lucifer. This is always the first clump to flower, the other clump by the pond is always later, don’t know why as they are both in sun all day.
There we have my six for this week. More really hot weather is forecast for this weekend so I will be staying in the shade, away from any sunshine that shows itself, trying to keep cool, hopefully I will manage to get a bit of gardening done, at least pull a few weeds out.
I did an update on the meadow during the week, if you want to see the new inhabitant of the meadow you will need to take a look at my previous post!
Thanks to Jim at Garden Ruminations for hosting once more, do pay him a visit to see what is flowering in gardens around the world.
I’m glad your physio is pleased with your progress and even more pleased that gardening has been acknowledged as the reason! Lovely daylilies, they really are a joy, aren’t they. I like your mallow, a lovely colour, I had to cut mine to the base last week as it was full of rust. Not sure if it will recover. Keep cool over these next few days!
I’m glad that Gabriel, my physio, accepts gardening as total workout for the body Gill, I really feel that I don’t need to do his exercises if I’ve been gardening for nearly an hour! I was honest with him and thankfully he agrees. I’m loving the day lilies but they seem to be flowering much earlier now.
Madame E. Mouillere is my favourite white too, such a beauty.
I agree Liz, she is a lovely one.
All beautiful, but especially the day lilies.
They add to all the colour in the garden Helen, and should keep flowering for about a month.
You have a very interesting dark purple colour of daylilies. I think it’s the colour I don’t have in my garden yet.
A very beautiful photo of the red crocosmia flowers; mine should arrive this week.
The dark purple daylilies make a nice change from lots of red ones that I have Fred. Lucifer is always the first Crocosmia to flower, I have to wait quite a time for other varieties to start flowering.
Oh, I’m glad that your progress is good. When I saw that Hydrangea at the beginning, it made me smile. It’s so fun when the soil is neutral or changing, and the blooms vary in color. All the other blooms, including the Daylilies, are beautiful, too. Happy “Six.”
Legs are getting stronger week by week Beth. I have lived here for 35 yrs and it is only now that the hydrangea is changing from the pink that it has always been to blue! Have a good weekend.
Lovely daylilies. For some reason my one and only daylily suffers from snails getting into the buds. I did some clearing of the cinquefoil on Thursday which had wound its way between the leaves and found several snails, both big and small. They make a horrid mess of the flowers.
I’m glad your physio accepts gardening as a workout, it’s the only exercise I do! And all that standing around, walking to and from the compost bin, bending to weed etc is very physical!
Fortunately I haven’t had a problem with snails here Jude, just as well as I have so many day lilies! Yes, lots of bending, stretching and walking goes on in the garden, my physio is in great favour of it, he is quite happy for me to do it instead of his exercises on some days.
Well done on your progress – I’m glad the physio acknowledges the physical benefits of gardening. A lovely selection. I almost featured ‘Lucifer’ today. It seems to flower earlier each year.
I am so much stronger as the weeks go by, all thanks to gardening. Just after I came home after my op I could only manage 10 or 15 minutes, now I can manage an hour, which is a great improvement. Lucifer is certainly getting earlier and earlier each year.
