Having lovely rain each day has made such a difference to the garden, walking into the woodland has almost the same feeling as in February when the snowdrops are out in flower. This time though, it is the Cyclamen hederifolium that are wowing me, they have exploded everywhere! The ants have been busy spreading seeds far and wide over the years since I planted the corms many years ago and it is now that I am seeing the results improving year on year. Well done ants!

I had been thinking that I wouldn’t manage to find 6 that were worth showing to you, but here goes…………….

So lovely to see so many cyclamen flowers in amongst all the fallen leaves.

Must make sure that I have a daily wander here so that I can appreciate them all.

Also in the woodland are the Honesty,  Lunaria, seedheads, shining brightly in the sun that is now coming through the trees now that the leaves are falling.

I’m glad to see that the Pyracantha berries are still on the bushes, I was worried they would get eaten too soon and the birds wouldn’t have them to eat in the winter.

Rudbeckia fulgida Goldsturm have been flowering for such a long time now, they make a lovely splash of colour in the border.

The Roe deer has been back to my meadow, even though it has now been cut! He/she has also been back to my Iceberg roses nearby and pruned them once more for me!

Must find someone to climb my apple trees for me, don’t know what variety this one is, it was here before I was. It is an eater, but I mustn’t let them go to waste.

There we have it, I just managed to find six for you this week. I am rather behind with everything this week, playing catchup at the moment, will explain more fully in the weeks to come.

If you would like to see more flowers and gardens from around the world then do pop over to Jim at Garden Ruminations.

  1. Rosie Amber says:

Well done, the cyclamen really are lovely.

  2. Catherine says:

It looks as though you didn’t have to struggle to find six good photos, Pauline, they were there all the time! Your cyclamen are gorgeous – I’m sure that you will enjoy those daily woodland walks and appreciate their beauty. The honesty seedheads are wonderful – and your Pyracantha is looking stunning.

    • Pauline says:

I suppose it depends what you want to photograph Catherine, but I knew I wouldn’t have 6 new flowers! The woodland is having its second time of being my favourite place at the moment, I’m sure it will carry on for a while.

  3. Noelle says:

I hope you find someone to come and pick and share your crop of apples…if only I was closer! Maybe someone who presses apples for apple juice would like to come and share your crop, and leave you the best ones for eating.

    • Pauline says:

I’m sure I shall Noelle, usually I can ask my young handyman to pick a few bags for both himself and me after he has finished doing some work for me. I usually freeze the cookers for the winter along with any blackberries I can find.

  4. Helen Jones says:

The roe deer must be very discerning if it’s eating your roses, but I’d bet you’d rather it wasn’t!
I hope you find someone to take the apples from you, as Noelle says perhaps someone who has an apple press? Maybe there’s a community one nearby, I think I’m right in saying there are some around.

    • Pauline says:

The deer always seems to eat the same roses each time Helen, thank goodness it hasn’t discovered the actual rose garden! I’m sure someone will come and pick my apples for me, they will be bribed with bags of them to take away!

  5. Graeme says:

The rain has been nice hasn’t it?! Those Cyclamen are stunning. I hope you find someone to pick those delicious looking apples for you.

    • Pauline says:

The rain has been wonderful Graeme, pity it can’t just come during the night! The apples will soon be picked, never fear, I can reach a few but I am too old to go climbing ladders!

  6. fred says:

A very autumnal Six with apples, seed heads, and cyclamen flowers. You spoiled us!
(The ‘Golden’ variety would have been my answer if they were more yellow))

  7. Oooo, fruits and lovely flowers! I’m so glad that folks have received some needed rain. I guess our wishes in this part of the world to share our rain have been successful. Sadly, now we’re entering a dry period, so I’m watering plants more than I have all summer. It would be nice if we all simply had “enough.”

    • Pauline says:

We certainly needed our rain Beth, so thanks for sharing it with us! Until fairly recently there didn’t seem to be a problem, now it is drought or floods, one extreme to the other. Hope your rain soon comes.

A very seasonal six! Cyclamen are such a nice surprise at this time of year. Enjoy! I am glad that the roe deer only prune your roses. Our muntjac have a habit of bark stripping that ends up in dead plants 🙁

    • Pauline says:

I was very surprised to see so many this year Allison, far more than usual, all thanks to the ants! If muntjac strip the bark then I’m very happy they don’t visit here. In the winter I have seen Roe footprints in the snow right under the kitchen window, but its only lately that they have been leaving their calling card and pruning the roses.
