Six on Saturday 29. 3. 2025.

What a difference a week makes! All of a sudden, as well as all the spring flowers that are decorating the garden at the moment, blossom is now appearing on most of the shrubs. It has also made a diffence to the strength in my legs, I am now walking right round the whole of the garden and the woodland for my morning exercise each day and feeling a lot better for it. Each day I see something new to admire, so let me share six of them with you.

Camellia Margaret Davies in the border by the drive.

Kerria japonica pleniflora, also by the front drive.

Primula sibthorpii, a species Primula which is up at the top of the garden under the pergola.

Prunus Kojo-no-mai just starting to flower behind the bar- b- que.

Epimedium Amber Queen in the border in front of the woodland.

And just next to the Epimedium is Brunnera Jack Frost.

There we have my six for this week, do pop over to Jim at Garden Ruminations for more spring flowers, it was easy to find six this week, a question really of what to leave out! Have a good weekend!

  1. Fred says:

I had a Kerria in the past, but it became too invasive and went over the fence to my neighbor’s house. Is this the case with yours?
Indeed, we have some identical plants like the brunnera and the Kojo: that is great isn’t it?!
I also do like the Epimedium ‘Amber Queen’

    • Pauline says:

Thankfully my Kerria has a big wall behind it, hopefully that is keeping it under control Fred! More flowers are opening on the Kojo, maybe you will see it again next week!

  2. Gill Heavens says:

Lots of lovelies there! I do like kerria, you don’t seem to see it very often these days. The winner for me is the epimedium, lovely colour.

    • Pauline says:

I think the Kerria has fallen out of fashion Gill, which is a shame. I too love the Epimedium, Amber Queen is very generous with her flowers.

  3. Catherine says:

Spring has yet to make a ‘real’ appearance here, Pauline, but seeing your abundance of spring blooms is lovely. Your Camellia Margaret Davies is very unusual with its pink edged flowers. The Epimedium is such a graceful flower – gorgeous!

    • Pauline says:

I can safely say that spring has arrived here in Devon Catherine, so many lovely spring flowers everywhere, in gardens and the hedgerows, such a joy to drive along the lanes. I must go and check on my other epimedium, haven’t noticed flowers on them yet.

  4. That Camellia is a great way to start off your post…just lovely. I wish my climate was mild enough to grow them easily. They are so beautiful! All your other blooms are gorgeous, too. My Epimediums will likely bloom in a couple of weeks; I love them, too! 🙂

    • Pauline says:

I like that Camellia too Beth, very pretty. So many bulbs are popping up and opening, something new each day and lots of pollinators waiting for them!

  5. Graeme says:

A lovely selection. Your Prunus Kojo-no-mai will soon be covered with blooms.

  6. Helen Jones says:

Having a lovely garden is a good incentive to get out there and walk around. I’m glad you’re starting to feel a bit better.

    • Pauline says:

You are so right Helen, I’m feeling stronger day by day and now look forward to exploring the garden each morning to see what has popped up overnight!
