I think May is my favourite month, so much is flowering and looking so fresh, trees and shrubs as well as bulbs and perennials.
The most obvious shrubs are the rhodos, azaleas and viburnums, you can’t miss them.

So many flowers you can’t see the foliage.
Evergreen Japanese Azalea
Meconopsis cambrica popping up in the shady borders.
Narcissus Actaea still flowering and producing it’s wonderful perfume.
Candelabra primulas have just started flowering.
Cow parsley has jumped into the woodland from the road outside., they will not be allowed to seed around as I don’t want them swamping everything.
Lovely Epimedium Amber Queen is still covered in flowers, more opening every day.
White flowered Honesty has seeded in the woodland, must sprinkle more purple seed.
Hyacynthoides non spripta is flowering in lots of places, one of our most beautiful native plants.
Euphorbia mellifera adding its perfume to the garden.
Iris japonica, not as good this year as usual, must sort them out.
Chives which have seeded in between the paving of the patio by the back door. They were under water all winter with so much rain, but don’t seem the least bit bothered. I thought they liked well drained soil!
Clematis montana cascading down from an oak tree.
Turning the other way and looking towards the border round the dead oak and beyond to the border by the field, both have Viburnums in flower.

Azalea Persil next to the Vibutnum, this has a fantastic perfume.
Not quite out yet, but Azalea Homebush, the other side of the viburnum, also has a wonderful perfume.
Viburnum opulus, the Snowball Bush in the side border by the field.
Geranium phaeum spreading happily by the dead oak.
Camassias now flowering in the front border.
A surprise wisteria climbing up the garage wall. I thought this had died many years ago, but obviously the plant had other ideas!
The weather for April was dreadful and plants seemed to be a month behind, but I think this month they have caught up with themselves. During May we have had some very warm weather, too warm for some plants that flower this month and for some gardeners! I think we are now back to what we should be for this tme of year, much better for getting all the work done that needs our attention.

So many stunning blooms in your garden. Isn’t May a splendid time in the garden? Although we’re thousands of miles apart, our climates are similar and many of the same plants in your garden thrive in this region. Happy gardening!
I think our climates are quite similar Peter, but you have more exotic plants than I do! This is a wonderful time of year, we must just enjoy it.
And there’s no shortage of work! But it’s such a pleasure to be out in the garden at the moment. The sun and the scents and the constant birdsong. May is my favourite month too. I love Geranium phaeum. I lost one and its replacement has yet to bloom. I shall have to be patient a while longer.
The weeds are popping up faster than I can pull them out Jessica, but being in the garden with the birds and bees is so wonderful at the moment. Geranium phaeum is spreading quite a lot, just as well that I have plenty of room for it!
What a wonderful selection of photos and flowers Pauline. Your azaleas are stunning, especially Homebush. I sympathise with you about the weeds, it really is a continual battle this time of year.
Thank you Denise, it really is a wonderful time of year in the garden. Homebush has started flowering now and the perfume is wonderful. Weeds are gradually getting pulled, I hope I win in the end!

I have never seen the Geranium phaeum before. Such a beautiful color.
Your Azaleas are making me love them more.

Thank you Sally I’m glad you like the pictures. Clematis montana took a long time to climb the oak tree, but it was worth the wait. April was such a cold wet month, this month is much better, thank goodness.
So much going on at this time of year with something new appearing every day – it’s wonderful! Still hot and dry here with no rain on the horizon, which I personally would welcome!
I too could do with some rain Cathy, we gardeners are never satisfied are we! The sunshine is lovely but it means watering for me for my new plantings, I can usually leave it up to Mother Nature!
